My Top 6 places to see in NYC
In alphabetical order…
Brooklyn Bridge
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is another one of my favorite things to do. But walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan is the way to do it, that way you get the Manhattan skyline as you walk towards it. The “trick” is to take the subway to Brooklyn, then walk back to Manhattan.
Coney Island
What is there not to like about Coney Island?
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Luna Park, and he Cyclone.
The boardwalk, and the beach.
Also home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, the baseball team.
Tons to see AND do, you could make an amazing day of it.

Flushing Corona Park
In Queens, the Flushing Corona Park is great, not only because of the old NY Fair stuff, but also because of the vicinity of multiple museums and things to do. The Unisphere is there, the National Tennis Center, the Queens Museum of Art (temporarily closed until October 2013 due to remodeling), the Queens Zoo , and the NY Hall of Science. CitiField is also nearby( on the map, labeled Shea Stadium).
Grand Central Terminal
Yes, it’s in Midtown. But there is so much to do here, and you don’t HAVE to spend a lot of money. There are shops and a food court, and it is a major hub for transportation in the city too, and amazing architecture too. This is my go to place to bring a visitor, rain or shine, followed up by one of the museums.
Roosevelt Island
This is a very nice morning or afternoon. You could take the tram over, and there is the FDR 4 Freedoms park, and the Renwick Ruins at the south end of the island, and there restaurants and stores in the middle. It is a little known treasure, technically in Manhattan!
Manhattan is on the left, and Queens is on the right.
Staten Island Ferry
It’s a nice free ferry ride to Staten Island, and there are a few things to do there. Make sure to go during the non-rush hour part of the day, so you don’t make it more crowded for people trying to get to or from work. There is a 9/11 Memorial within walking distance, a nice walkway to get there, and soon, there are talks to get a Ferris wheel put in.
Nice views of the Statue of Liberty too, which is re-opening on July 4th this year, after Hurricane Sandy closed it last fall. Subway from Times Square: take the 1 or the R southbound to the South Ferry station. It should take about 30 minutes to travel down to the ferry, and I’d plan on 1 ½ hours for the ferry ride, round trip.
