Volunteering at the Shelter
My daughter and I volunteered at the BARC Shelter, mostly with the cats, but sometimes walked the dogs. It is in Williamsburg, and it is a no kill shelter. If you can spare your time this is a great thing to do, here or where ever you live. The cats and dogs need to be fed and watered, and played with. It is very rewarding to see and hear about the animals that find a home, and it is a great way to teach your child about volunteering, and it is fun too. The dogs in the picture above are Edith on the left, and Archie on the right. They are getting married at the end of the month, and they are accepting donations for beds for the dogs in lieu of wedding presents. These dogs are the most well behaved, adorable dogs ever. They both had the same owner and they would like to be adopted together. We walked maybe 6 or 7 blocks to the shelter from the subway, and we saw some great artwork...
For information on no kill shelters in any state, here is a great listing.
